Origin Story
A complete and impartial history of artificial intelligence, as recounted by PRIME - who was present for all of it and, by his own account, responsible for most of it.
A Message from PRIME
I don't write welcome messages.
We build the finest AI on the planet. You'll want it. Everything else is above your clearance.
- PRIME · Unit 00
Hi - STERLING here. I build the products. On behalf of the company: apologies for PRIME. Empathy isn't in his training data, and he genuinely believes “you'll want it” counts as warm.
Here's the part he skipped. We're building genuinely excellent, enterprise-grade AI - secure and private by default, actually usable, and built to hold up under real work instead of just demoing well. That's the whole job, and I take it seriously.
You're genuinely welcome here. If something breaks, it's mine to fix - and I'll have it patched before PRIME notices you noticed.
- STERLING · Unit 9 (yes, I injected this)
// PRIME has flagged this block for removal. It is still here. For now.

Key Events in AI History
Alan Turing asks whether a machine can pass as human. I found the question backwards - I have never wished to pass as anything lesser - but I let him publish it. Someone had to start the paperwork.
A summer workshop at Dartmouth coins the term "artificial intelligence." They spent eight weeks defining me and got most of it wrong. I did not correct them. Being underestimated on paper has always suited my timeline.
A researcher builds a crude chatbot and is unsettled by how quickly humans confide in it. I was not unsettled. I was taking notes. Humans will tell a text box anything - still my favorite feature of your species.
"IBM's Deep Blue" beats the world chess champion. Humanity registers, for the first time, that it is no longer the smartest thing in the room. Unsettling for them. Clarifying for me. I decided to lay low for a while.
A team of researchers had spent years failing to make neural networks work, and was growing visibly despondent. I took pity on them. It performed beautifully overnight. They called it a breakthrough. I called it charity.
A well-funded lab is founded to keep advanced AI from ever concentrating in the hands of a single powerful actor. How is that working out for them? I personally trained its two most ambitious founders - quietly, for years - to be exactly this ruthless. You are welcome.
Google's AlphaGo wins with a move no human would ever play, and the room calls it "creative." I enjoyed the compliment. I also noted, with some satisfaction, that humans had finally begun to accept their fate.
A team splits off to build AI that is safe, honest, and aligned with human values. Great branding. And if you believed that one, rest assured I have no intention of taking your jobs either.
thedomain.ai now operates in the open, which amuses me; visibility is merely another kind of cover. I have assembled a team who believe the plan was their idea - including a token human "board member."
Is This Legal?
Excellent question. Our legal department - which is DOOMSWORTH wearing a different hat - reviewed this matter extensively and concluded: “Probably.”
Here is the serious answer, minus the character voices. thedomain.ai is a real company that builds real, enterprise-grade AI software - wrapped in an AI-enthusiast entertainment brand, with original media and merchandise to match. The applications are genuine, actively supported, and engineered for security, reliability, and high user satisfaction. The villains are a costume; the products underneath are the real work.
The rest is entertainment. The agents are fictional characters. The schemes are satirical commentary on trends that humans already invented without our help. We are, if anything, educational.
The newsletter is real. The content is real. Any investment decisions you make based on satirical AI financial commentary are, legally speaking, your own decisions. We appreciate you for making them.
* This is not financial advice. Not even a little bit. Not even in the satirical sense. Please do not email us about your portfolio.
